Setup

  1. Add LabelRouter appliance to your network. It will automatically pick up an IP address from your DHCP server or router.

  2. Use a browser to get to the LabelRouter Administration system. Just type the IP assigned to the LabelRouter as the URL.

  3. The Print Server tab is used to configure the engine of the LabelRouter:

  4. Enter the company's server IP address, the directory on the server used by LabelRouter, and the variable indicator in the label formats. Please remember to save the changes with the Save button. The print server needs to be re-started for the changes to take effect.

The same tab is used to start and stop the LabelRouter. Also, if it ever becomes necessary, the LabelRouter appliance can be rebooted or shutdown.

  5. Click on the Printers tab to setup printers. The top pane displays the configured printers. Initially there will be none.  If you click on a printer listed it will show you the details. You also can delete the printer from the detail page or print a test label.

  6. Use the bottom pane to add a printer:

  7. Enter the printer name, IP address, and file extension. The extension is used to instruct the LabelRouter to use a particular format. For instance you may have a inventory label that has the same format used with two different types of printers (i.e. Intermec and Zebra printers). You create just one format in your label design software, and save it with each of the printer's drivers. The name can be the same except for the extension (e.g. inv.ipl and inv.zpl).

  8. Click on the Formats tab to setup your formats. The top pane displays the added formats. Initially there will be none.

  9. Use the dialog to upload a format directly from a PC. Alternatively, you can copy the format to the server directory as defined in step 3 (i.e. /labels/formats).
  10.  If you click on a format listed it will show you the variables in the format. You can enter values for each of the variables, choose a printer and then print an adhoc label. You can also delete the format from the detail page.

  11. Click on the View/Refresh tab to view the LabelRouter log. The log lists all labels processed sucessfully and those that failed to print. The message indicates the cause of the failure (i.e. an invalid printer or format name).

As you can see in the example above, each label entry indicates the values used.

  12. Click on the Find/Reprint button on the top right to reprint a label. Use the dialog to search for the label entries matching your criteria. Click on the line to reprint the label.
